The Director, NCERT, Dinesh Saklani was present during the webinar organised by CBSE for the launch of the curriculum for classes 9 and 10.

Continuing from where it left off earlier this week, official sources on Wednesday (1st April 2026) clarified that there will be no further delay in making these textbooks available for the upcoming academic session.
“Most of the Class 9 textbooks are ready and are being printed. They shall be available by April 10–15 at the latest,” said NCERT Director Dinesh Saklani on Thursday.
Though Dr Mathur claimed that almost all the new textbooks had been cleared, he admitted that a few were still under the board’s scanner. “These are the ones on which there is a lot of discussion, and sometimes even controversy after release. We are trying to review them carefully so that any such controversies are minimised,” he said.
CBSE on Thursday (2nd April 2026) rolled out a new curriculum for Classes 9 and 10 for the academic session 2026-27, and stressed the need for integrating innovation and research into academics.
The board also held a webinar during which teachers suggested updating the new curriculum with skills like 3D visualisation and computational design, reports PTI. The webinar was attended by over 3,000 principals and teachers across the country, according to CBSE Secretary Rakesh Saklani.
‘Books will be out soon’: CBSE
The board will hold its examination on May 13, said FIITJEE Director D. J. Singh. Speaking on the same occasion, CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh assured that the test would be conducted smoothly and assured that unlike the earlier times, the test would not be delayed.
Reacting sharply to allegations of ‘sponsored’ contents in NCERT books, Raja Ram Kumar Friday asked that if the education minister was not ‘sponsored’, then why the controversial chapter on Medieval Indian History from Class 8 Social Science book was on Wednesday withdrawn from the NCERT website following the Supreme Court intervention on the book’s reference to “corruption in the judiciary”.
“Professor Rajiv Singh: Textbooks for Class 9 have been done and are almost ready for implementation and would be out very soon. Given the circumstances there would be obviously lot of anxiety and apprehension, I assure you that these books would be out very soon and though we may not be able to dish them out but we can certainly start with classroom transactions.”
Session begins, but books not yet available
Starting the new academic session from April 1 would be difficult for schools as many have not received the revised textbooks for Class 9 yet.
Schools are operating in the dark with interim draft syllabi and related materials, as teachers scrabble to deliver quality lessons without a designated textbook.
Developed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, the new batch of textbooks would have been available by Mid April 2026.
This could possibly be a mid-April release, and accordingly, schools may start off with interim materials and then adopt the new textbooks shortly thereafter.
