NCERT Guidelines require students in Grades 6 to 8 to have 10 Days without bags from carrying bags:
The Ministry of Education revealed guidelines on Monday to implement bag days for these grades aiming to enhance the enjoyment, engagement and relaxed atmosphere of classroom learning.
The NCERT through the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education shared its suggestions during the celebration of the year since the introduction of the updated National Education Policy (NEP), in 2020.
As a part of NEP 2020 all students, in grades 6 8 were urged to participate in a 10 day period without carrying bags.
The aim of implementing the ten bag days is to incorporate them into the process rather than just adding them as an extra element, to the current curriculum for students in grades 6 through 8. The objective is not to bridge the gap between knowledge and its practical application but also to familiarize students with the skills required in various professions helping them make informed decisions about their future careers.
"It has been decided by state and local authorities, based on skill requirements that each student in grades 6 to 8 will participate in a fun course that offers an overview and hands on experience in vocational trades, like carpentry, electrical work, metalwork, gardening, pottery making and more " they elaborated.
The ministry plans for all kids to participate in a bag period lasting 10 days during their 6th, to 8th grade years. During this time they will apprentice with artisans, like potters, gardeners and carpenters.
An annual schedule may include instances of Ten Bag-less Days events. Its suggested to keep two or three slots open. All subject teachers might collaborate on developing a curriculum. The guidelines indicate that indoor and outdoor activities could be combined on days if necessary.
The NCERT recommendations suggest activities such, as visiting vegetable markets, volunteering, pet care surveys, kite making and flying organizing a book fair relaxing under a tree and visiting a biogas factory and solar energy park.
Additional initiatives introduced during the National Education Plans anniversary included the launch of a Tamil channel specialized TV channels for teaching languages, career guidance resources, braille and audiobook versions of primers in 25 Indian languages for young learners the National Mission for Mentoring and National Professional Standards for Teachers. There was also a school innovation marathon by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and a publication, on skills and graduation traits.
Furthermore there have been four publications and educational materials distributed to inspire educators and learners to embrace knowledge systems.
The objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 a year endeavor is to bring about significant changes, in the country's education framework to equip the upcoming generation of students. According to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, NEP 2020 represents a beacon of hope, for reshaping the environment leveraging India's advantage empowering individuals and fueling socio economic progress.
He continued, "The education system, in our country has taken on a thinking, traditional, worldwide and results driven approach with the introduction of NEP. This has led to a purposeful learning experience."
The essence of the Akhil Bharatiya Siksha Samagam is to celebrate the acceptance of NEP 2020 reignite the dedication of stakeholders towards its execution and acknowledge the strength of unity, in reaching shared goals through collaborative endeavors.
